Across the Aylesbury Vale, many families face isolation, health issues and overwhelming circumstances without support.

Farah, a single mother who is a domestic abuse survivor and lives with ADHD. The family were struggling in a small, cluttered flat, which affected her mental health.

Seeking Help

Unfortunately, they lived far away from any family and had little support. She said, “Asking for help felt so hard, it felt like failure. I didn’t think that I should ask as there are others with higher needs,” but was glad she reached out to Nest Aylesbury Vale.

Volunteer Matching

Nest matched Farah with Tamara, a local property developer and volunteer with skills in interior design and decluttering. Farah said Tamara “saw me, not just the mess,” and helped her to realise that needing support was okay.

Volunteer Support

Together, they redesigned her living space into a calm, functional environment.

Farah now has “the energy to actually parent and enjoy [her] children instead of just managing the chaos”.

Volunteer Tamara explains she provides practical support and encouragement, noting that changing how a room works “can change how a parent sees their home and themselves”.

How Nest Supports Local Families

This is just one example of the support Nest volunteers can provide. Support is always tailored to each family’s individual needs and circumstances, and can look very different from one family to another.

Nest Aylesbury Vale matches volunteers based on strengths and lived experience, helping ensure positive outcomes and providing a calm, safe space for overwhelmed parents. Volunteers help families to “get back on track”.
